Financial Reporting Specialist

  • Outstanding mathematical skills and capacity to comprehend relevant fiscal aspects within the Financial Services sector.
  • Ability to provide pertinent and valuable Management Information contribution.

Role objectives

The individual will effectively manage the following core functions: 

IFRS Reporting:

  • Prepare IFRS reporting to Group and local Board / EXCO. 
  • Prepare IFRS compliant Annual Financial Statements (“AFS”). 
  • Prepare monthly Management Pack / EXCO report with analysis of Actual / Budget and Forecast. 
  • Prepare consolidated and foreign currency translated results to Group
  • Key contact for external/internal auditors 

Regulatory Reporting and Tax:

  • Prepare the Finance submission of the Regulatory submissions on a quarterly and annual basis. Liaise with Head of Actuarial Function and valuations teams on regulatory reporting matters.
  • Prepare tax calculations for the AFS and ensure completion of tax returns to SARS together with the tax advisor.

Payroll:

  • Review of Payroll prepared by service provider
  • Reporting and tracking of staff costs against budget 
  • BBBEE reporting and insights

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Review final General Ledger and all supporting reconciliations and journal entries performed by the finance Operations function lead by the financial accountant. 
  • Review reconciliation and journal entries generated by the various sub-ledgers including the Fixed Asset Register, the Investment Registers and the Policyholder Registers. 
  • Review all cost allocations to ensure alignment with the cost allocation framework. 

Requisite skills & competencies

  • IFRS reporting skills and review of key Financial Metrics.
  • Sound problem-analysis capabilities and solutions-driven. 
  • Well organised and deadline-driven, thrives in an environment of high pressure and critical decision-making.
  • Proactive with demonstrated initiative.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Highly proficient with Excel

Qualifications and experience

  • Chartered Accountant (South Africa) designation or equivalent qualification
  • Financial Services experience 
  • Insurance experience highly advantageous
