Why we focus on one thing only

Retirement income is too important to be one of many things

When something really matters, the longest menu isn’t helpful. Focus is. At Just SA, we just do retirement income, and we do it well.

The menu test

Nobody goes to a restaurant that serves sushi, pizza, curry, pasta and steak and then expects the steak to be exceptional.

It’s just human nature. It’s only when someone does one thing again and again that you trust they’ll do it properly. They know what to look for, what to avoid and what small details make all the difference.

That same instinct matters at retirement.

The money you’ve spent decades building now has to support you through market changes, rising costs, changing health, family responsibilities and the one thing no one can know for certain: how long your retirement will last. All of that needs a specialist in retirement income.

Your money has a new job now

For years, your retirement savings had one main role: growth

You contributed to it, protected it, invested it and gave it time. When markets moved up and down, it may have felt uncomfortable, but you were still working, still had a salary, and still had time to recover.

At retirement, everything changes. Your salary stops and your savings need to start paying you. That means your money has to do two things at once: provide income for today, while still being managed carefully for tomorrow.

How long ‘tomorrow’ will be is anyone’s guess.

You may need income for 15 years. You may need it for 35. You may spend more in the early years because you finally have time to travel, renovate, help your children or spoil your grandchildren. Later, your spending may change again as healthcare, needs or family responsibilities shift.

Not knowing for how long you’ll need an income in retirement affects every decision: how much income to draw, how much risk to take, how much flexibility to keep and how much certainty you want behind your plan. It also raises several questions.

“How much have I saved?” is only the first question

If you’re nearing retirement, you’ve probably asked yourself: How much have I saved?

It’s an important question, but it’s only the starting point.

Once you retire, your savings need to become income. That brings three bigger questions into focus:

  • How much income can I count on each month?
  • How long does that income need to last?
  • How confidently can I use the money I’ve worked so hard to build?

These aren’t simple savings questions. They’re retirement income questions, and you don’t have to answer them alone. We’re here to help you and your financial adviser find answers so you can move from saving for retirement to living from your savings with confidence.

The fear of running out of money can make you live as if you already have

When you’re not sure what income you can safely rely on, it becomes harder to enjoy the money you spent a lifetime building.

You might say yes to the birthday lunch, but spend the whole meal secretly adding up what it’ll cost. You might want to spoil your grandchildren, but find yourself hesitating over buying something small. Not because you can’t afford it today, but because you’re not sure what tomorrow may need from you.

That’s not the retirement you want. You need retirement income solutions that will help you feel confident that your money will last.

This is where focus matters

At Just SA, retirement income isn’t one part of a much bigger business. It’s our entire focus.

We won’t insure your car, your home or your phone.

We won’t give you points for swiping, walking, filling up or buying a smoothie you never really wanted.

We won’t help you chase AI, crypto or offshore tech.

As the only company in South Africa dedicated exclusively to retirement income, we spend our time thinking about the questions that matter most at this stage of life: how long income may need to last, and how retirees can feel more confident using the money they worked so hard to build.

When something really matters, the longest menu isn’t helpful. Focus is.
